Secure online shopping with your Bankcards

Tuesday June 24, 2008

Using your bank cards for online shopping is becoming increasingly popular. People are shopping for everything from DVDs to furniture online and using their bank cards to pay for it. If you take proper precautions against fraud, you will be able to in a secure online environment and trust that the details of your bank cards will not be used fraudulently.

Use your bank cards with well known companies. If you're making an online purchase with a company for the first time, check out their reputation first.

Check for contact details. If the company doesn't display their phone numbers, physical address or an ABN (Australia only), then do not hand over the details of your bank cards.

Only use secure websites. Don't send the details of your bank cards via email - you'll have practically no protection against scams. Look for the padlock symbol in the corner of your browser. This will let you know you're entering a secure website.

Ignore any emails that request the details of your bank cards. Report them as junk.

Look for bank cards that offer online fraud protection if you're frequently shopping online.
