Oniomania - beating shopping addiction

Monday June 16, 2008

Love the ';high' feeling you get after a spending spree with your bankcards? Can't wait for the weekend so you can spend more money? Want a new pair of shoes even though you know you don't need any more? You might be suffering from oniomania - shopping addiction. Oniomania is a recognised condition and many people may suffer from it in varying degrees.

Shopping addiction can create a huge debt on your bankcards. Here are a few hints to help you manage your bankcards debt:

  • Identify items you need and items you want - only buy things that are necessary for survival such as food items.
  • Find healthier activities - instead of using your bankcards, try some exercise. You'll get a similar rush with exercise because exercise releases endorphins.
  • Create lists - take the time to make shopping lists. Write down all the items you want to buy, then identify all the items you need. Stick to the list when shopping.

Compare bankcards to see if you're getting the best out of your bankcards and help manage your shopping addiction.
