$64billion Question

THE biggest bank merger in the country's history is on the cards, as Westpac and St George discuss creating a $64 billion bank.

If it happens it would have about half the population as customers, with an estimated 10 million clients, and 1200 branches nationally.

Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly said the proposal represented a unique opportunity to wed two iconic Australian brands.
